From 1968 to 2012, Virginia was the only State without a State Agency overseeing the CACFP. Instead, the CACFP in Virginia was administered by the USDA Mid-Atlantic Regional Office in New jersey. Our association was formed by several Child Care Home Sponsors during that time to advocate for the CACFP, provide CACFP training to one another’s staff, and to connect the CACFP community. In 2012, the Virginia Department of Health took over administrative responsibility for the USDA, and in 2018, the Virginia Department of Education became responsible for the Afterschool and Summer components of the CACFP.
The Virginia CACFP Sponsors Association continues to carry-out its mission by working closely with VDH and DOE to provide training, connection, and advocacy.
